Soft soil is that cannot take heavy load coming from the
super structure. Also having low soil bearing capacity,
like black cotton soil, clay. For shallow foundation raft,

If the soil is soft then as per the soil report one shold
find till what depth do you find a hard rock strata, the
foundation also depends on the total height of the super
structure and the load capacity therefore one can use the
combination of Pile and raft foundation i.e take a group of
piles at the positon of the Columns and above that one can
have a raft.

if you are going to built structure on soft soil then you should check at which point there is a hard strata, if you found it at nearer depth, it will be good otherwise you should adopt raft foundation or pile foundation. in most cases pile foundations are used. one thing is important in that case that you should have to maintain the air gap below the ground beam otherwise it can be damaged by uplift pressure of soil as the black soil having the tendency of uplifting during rainfall.

Answer / friend
if the size of the soil particles is lees than .0075 mm
then soil is called soft soil, even by touching the soil u
can feel that softness.
The type of foundation used for soft soils are PILE
FOUNDATIONS. They suit them the most for the reason
they are economicaland
