In Star connected HT Motors , stator applied phase voltage
reduced by root 3 times so Current would be reduced
equivalent to this as well as stator Line current is equal
to phase current.
In Delta connected winding full line voltage(equal to phase
voltage) is applied on each phase so stator current would
be higher (root 3 times more than star connections).
The size of cable HT considerably reduced while on star with
delta connected motors. For star connection, the star point
easily brought out outside and make the connection by 3 nos.
HT bushings only for Delta 6 nos terminal bushings to be used.

In Star connected HT Motors , stator applied phase voltage
reduced by root 3 times so Current would be reduced and
motor is better protected and low consumption losses.

In star, phase voltage is reduced root3 times of applied
voltage thus creating less stress on winding of the
motor. Also reduced voltage can be controlled more safely.

one of the reason according to me should be that a motor
with star connection draws less starting current (5-8 times
less)
so if the motor is HV then there will be less voltage
fluctuation and less heating of the insulation of the motor
at starting
so the motor is better protected and does not start with a jerk
but generally the large motors are designed for delta
connection due to more mechanical power ( 3 times more than
the star connected) so there is need of auto transformer
starting

when i am going to take trail on a 3ph sq.i/m motor 5.5kw, i observed that RPM of the motor is very low as compared to the rated RPM and also it rotates in clockwise in first ON command, and anticlock wise in second ON command. finally i observed that on phase is no available . but iam not clear about, why the motor is rotates in both directions without any phase interchanging.pls answer to my question.
