present we are having 0.8pf but I want increase it up to
0.99 so what is the formula for it and how can i calculate?

Answer / kuppuswamy
PF = KW/KVA That is power factor = True power divided by
Apparent power.
If you want to increase the PF in generator, you have to
adjust the speed and voltage to bring to the required PF.
If you want to increase PF in industrial load, you have to
go for adding the capacitor banks in the line side.

If u wish to increase the P.F from 0.8 to 0.99 u have to
add capacitor banks.
Capacitor rating required (kVAR) =kW(tanØ1-tanØ2)
Cos Ø1 = 0.8, Ø1 = cos-1 (0.8), tan Ø1 = .
Cos Ø2 = 0.99, Ø2 = cos-1 (0.99),tan Ø2 = .

if you want to increase the power factor from 0.8 to 0.99
then in that case for
1. Generators:- you will have to increase the excitation
when generator is connected in an interconnected system
i.e. Many generators operating in parallel / or connected
to grid. increasing the excitation gives a leading power
factor and under excited generated draws lagging power
factor power.
2. When it is the case of Industries or other utilities
consuming electrical energy. one should know that all loads
consuming power are 99.99% inductive loads. Thus by adding a
capacitor bank of suitable rating shall be required to
compensate the lagging power factor.
