why do harmonics generata?
Answer / guru
Harmonics generate when there are lot of electronic devices
(Generally electronics circuit generates many waves like
square, triangle etc.) connected to a electric supply. This
is due to distortion of sinusoidal waves (AC waves) . That
is there are lot of waves generated internally inside the
sinusoidal waves.
It is classified as 2nd, 3rd,4th, 6th, 8th, 9th harmonic
waves and so on. Usually 2nd and multiples 2nd waves are
not so harmful to AC circuits and equipments. But 3rd and
multiples of 3rd harmonic waves make many disturbances and
transmission linelosses to AC Power.
There are many filters available in the AC circuit to
prevent the harmonic waves loss

At 765Kv, I have seen the use of PT at line side for metering and CVT for protection, although as far as my knowledge is concern, PT at this voltage level will have huge loss and more cost as compared to CVT as CVT can also perform same function of Protection and Metering? So my question is why use PT and not CVT for metering and protection in order to reduce the cost.
