HARMONICS --- BASICALLY ARE THE INTEGRAL MULTIPLE OF FUNDAMENTAL FREQUENCY.... WHICH CAUSES DISTORTION AND DISTURBANCES IN THE SYSTEM.....
AND IT RESULTS IN CHANGING OF THE SINUSOIDAL WAVE FORM..
SO THAT SYSTEM IS NOT GETTING PURE SINE WAVE AND ITS LOSSES ARE INCREASED AND WORKING EFFICIENCY IS DECREASED....

when a aperiodic signal is Fourier transformed we get many
sinusoid-es of different frequencies. They are called
harmonics. The frequencies which matches with the original
signal frequency is called first harmonic or fundamental.

before 1960 actually harmonics was very little.but todays world we have so many electronics equipments like computer, tv,washing machines ect...these equipments draw some more current for short interval of time.therefore the actual sinusoidal wave hasbeen changed for that time.this is happen in all the distribution system.it s the odd multiple of fundamental wave, like 3rd harmonic,5th harmonic ect...we r using harmonic filter to avoid it..

A power transformer 4MVA/11KV/0.415Kv has been out of use in 12years. what maintenance actions/test need to be carried out before energizing.
we have taken HV test of 2.5 k and Megger test on 11 kv HT cable.here it shows no fault but when we are charging the same cable with 11 kv supply why the VCB 11 kv gets tripped can anybody define the possible cause of fault ?
