In iduction motors the current is higher than normal for
both the cases when the voltage appllied is more than the
rated as well as less than the rated, why?

Answer / scb19422000
Because the difference between the applied voltage and the
back emf is more than normal in both the cases,as with
lower applied voltage the speed will be less due to higher
slip hence lower back emf.

Answer / prakash
In induction motor torque is directly proportional to square of current. Therefore if voltage is less than to maintain torque slip is increases , impedance decreases and current increases also when voltage increases than all magnetizing component of current increases so current increases.

1. If we apply dc supply to the primary winding of transformer it will be burnt out. similarly dc supply is given to field winding of syn. motor and armature winding of dc motor, they are safe. (Remember both windings inductive nature) what is the reason behind that?
