Answer / prabhakaran

DC transformer is not possible.according to transformers
mutual induction principle, which can possible only on
alternating current (AC).

Is a DC Transformer Possible? if Yes, Then Why, if not Then Why?..

Answer / suresh kumar k

The question itself is a little wrong, infact the question
should be "Why we will not apply DC to a Transformer, if it
applies what happens?

The answer is, there is no inductance effect produced in DC
as such in AC. If we apply a DC voltage to the primary of
the winding then there will be no Back EMF produced in the
primary winding because of lack of self inductance in the
winding for DC. Hence huge currents of the order of
thosands of Amps flow in the Pri. winding and leads to fire
in the winding. Also Since there is no mutual inductance
effect in secondary of the winding there will be no induced
EMF in secondary.

Is a DC Transformer Possible? if Yes, Then Why, if not Then Why?..

Answer / mahesh

DC transformer is not possible because a Xmer work at
principle of electromagnetic induction i.e. to say they work
at rate of change of flux & mutual induction & this is not
possible in DC so Xmer work only in AC

Is a DC Transformer Possible? if Yes, Then Why, if not Then Why?..

Answer / animesh verma

DC transformer is possiblle...
Its a well known topic of HVDC area..
See any HVDC book and look for DC current transformer it is
used to sense the current in HVDC links it has got two
rings over a straight rod and has got some AC bias...

Answer / kakanivenkatesh

transformer works in mutual inductance principle ..mutual
inductance is possible only for ac..

Is a DC Transformer Possible? if Yes, Then Why, if not Then Why?..

Answer / ashish verma

no it is not possible bcz there is constant flux

Is a DC Transformer Possible? if Yes, Then Why, if not Then Why?..

Answer / naresh

it is possible for small applications.the ransformer will
work for small period of time for given DC input as it will
produce little amount of flux for some time, but not
constant.as the flux is not constant, we prefer AC
transformer.
