ARE NOT EQUAL TO NO. OF POLES ON ROTOR.???

when number of rotor poles and stator are equal there
exists interlocking which meansstatot teeth and rotor poles

On the above case the speed of rotating magnetic field
is "synchronous speed".And the speed of the rotor is less
the synchronous speed, which depends upon slip.

if the no. of stator poles are equal to the no. of rotor
poles, torque will be zero. because stator poles attract the
rotor poles since there is no RMF in DC.. In case of AC
motors this problem is not present
