AC and DC drives are used for smooth speed control
purpose.Now a days A.C drives are prefered due to low
maint.

AC & DC Drives are used in traction system for example in
Railways. In railways for the regenertion braking system.

first of all why do we call it a drive instead of just calling it as a motor . its because ac drive or dc drive is a combination of a controlling circuit and a motor. so that we can control the speed, direction and regenrative power.

and these drives are mostly use in railways thats why sometime they will be called as traction motors.

controlling circuit used is a combination of thyristors and diodes so as to change the voltage or frequency to control the speed of ac drives.

If a HV Underground Cable (13.8KV) is layed in the ground below 1.5 Mtrs and any building construction is done on the Cable route. IS this allowable or Not? What should be the clearance. As per ISO construction on HV cable route is safe or Not? Why? Can any body suggest the site for my question?

Electricty is generated at around 16kV, then step up to 220kV for transmission then steped down to power transformers then DTs and then through the LT n/w it reaches the consumer end. At the consumer end 230V supply is required. So, why is electricity not generated directly at 230V and transmitted?
