Question { CSC, 27638 }

A man while going dowm in a escalator(which is miving down)
takes 50 steps to reach down and while going up takes 125
steps. If he goes 5 times faster upwards than downwards.
What will be the total no of steps if the escalator werent
moving.

Answer

169 approx.

let d be the steps in the esculator.

distance covered by man upwards = d+50
and downwards = d - 125

let s1 and s2 be the speed for upwards and downwards.

s1=s2 x 5

(d+50) / t = s1 ..........1
( d-125 ) / t = s2..........2

d= s1 x t - 50 d = s2 x t + 125

(s1 x t) - 50 = (s1 x t)/5 +125 solving (s1 x t) = 219.

sub in 1 we get d = 169.

Question { CTS, 20039 }

it takes 8 , 12 and 16 days for A , B and C to complete to
task . how many days will it take if A works on the job for
2 days and then B works on it until 25 % of the job is left
for C to do , and C completes the work ?

Answer

12 days.

work done by A in 1 day = 1/8.
for 2 days its 1/4.
remaining work is 1-1/4=3/4.

25 % of work is done atlast be C.
thrfore it is 1/4.

work done by B = 3/4-1/4 = 1/2.
days for B to complete is (1/2) /(1/12) = 6

days for C to complete 1/4 of the job (1/4) /(1/16) = 4.

A takes 2 days , B takes 6 days and C takes 4 days.
total is 12 days.
