Overflow occurs when a value exceeds the maximum capacity of a data type in computer programming. Overflow can lead to unexpected behavior or errors in the program. The conditions for which overflow is possible include:
1. Performing arithmetic operations with large numbers, causing the result to be larger than the maximum capacity of the data type used.
2. Accumulating intermediate results that exceed the maximum capacity of a data type over multiple arithmetic operations.
3. Comparing values outside the range of the data type being compared.
