What is Low cycle fatigue failure and High cycle fatigue
failure? What are considerations of these while designing a
machine?

What is Low cycle fatigue failure and High cycle fatigue failure? What are considerations of these ..

Answer / pradeep

Low cycle fatigue generally have less number of flight cycles to failure at high stress levels, fatigue cycles say about 10^3 cycles. But High cycle fatigue have more number of cycles to failure at low stress levels. >10^3 to say 10^8 cycles.

In High cycle fatigue since stress levels are less say at yeild limit of the material. The fatigue approach would be stress based. Whereas in Low cycle fatigue the fatigue failure is strain based approach.

Generally these machinary components and all fall in low cycle fatigue.

i just wanted to ask that what should one do to clear all the concepts a mechanical engineer needs to have cleared, this not only includes the concepts of each and every semester of his engineering course, but also the basic laws and fundamentals of physics(that required for Mechanical engineering).I am a third year mechanical engineering student and i am very keen to know about the above question. somebody please help me.
