If a car starts from A towards B with some velocity due to
some problem in the engine after travelling 30km.If the car
goes with 4/5 th of its actuval velocity the car reaches B
45min later to the actual time. If the car engine fails
ofter travelling 45km, the car reaches the destination B
36min late to the actual time , what is the initial
velocity of car and what is the distance between A and B in km

Answer / ravi ranjan sinha
let x is distance from A to B
and y is initial speed.
30/y+(x-30)5/4y -x/y = 3/4
=>
4x-12y=120 ----(1).
45/y + (x-45)5/4y -x/y=3/5
=>
5x-12y=225 -------(2).
From equ (1) and equ (2) we will get.
x=25 and y=105
so initial speed is 25
and Distance From A to B is 105
Ans 25,105

Answer / nilkanth
taking velocity and distance as unknowns. write 2 equations
for both the cases equating total time taken considering the
delays.. u will get two simultaneous equations. solve them
to get d unknowns..u will get 25km/hr and 105 kms...

Answer / chris
yup 105km and 25km/hr
You look at the difference in velocity over the 15km that
the velocity is different over.

Answer / namrata gupta
Let the distance between A and B is x and the velocity initially is v
then according to the given conditions
[30/v]+[(x-30)/(4v/5)] = [x/v]+3/4 here 3/4 is for 45 minute
[45/v]+[(x-45)/(4v/5)] = [x/v]+3/5 here 3/5 is for 36 minute
on solving we will get (x-30)/v = 3 and (x-45)/v = 12/5
or x-30 = 3v and x-45 = 12v/5 or x = 105 and v = 25
