During my time as a graduate student, I worked on the design of an efficient wing for a solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). One of the main challenges was balancing lift generation with minimizing drag to maximize range. To address this issue, we explored various wing designs and investigated the use of airfoils optimized for both lift and drag reduction at low speeds. Additionally, we considered incorporating vortex generators and winglets to further enhance performance. The project involved extensive CFD simulations and wind tunnel testing to validate our design choices.
