6 cats kill 6 rats in 6 minutes .how many cats will be needed to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes?..

Answer / lava kumar

Answer is very simple.
The ratio is Cats:Rats:Time
1:1:6
we have to maintain the same ratio
but the given ratio is
x:2:1
Therefore take the last two terms 2:1 has to be
made to 1:6
That is div by 2 and mul by 12 we get 12:12:72
therefore number of cats=12.

6 cats kill 6 rats in 6 minutes .how many cats will be needed to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes?..

Answer / dr mark s

Theoreticaly the answers are correct but practicaly incorrect.

The kill ratio that the answers stated are based on an equal
ratio of Cats to Rats but consider when there are less rats
than cats ie 12 Cats and 6 rats ... theoreticaly two cats
could kill one rat twice as fast as one cat could but in
practice this would not happen, one cat would be killing and
th other cat would be sitting on the sidelines licking his
lips and sharpening its claws, he cannot speed up the kill rate.

Most people approach this conumdrum from a pure mathematical
POV as opposed to applied mathematics, I mean honestly can
12 cats kill the last rat in 30 seconds?

Lewis Carroll wrote many riddles such as this and along with
Newton was one of the great mathematicians of the recent age.

6 cats kill 6 rats in 6 minutes .how many cats will be needed to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes?..

Answer / michael

If we assume that 1 solo cat can kill 1 rat in 6 min and they don't start hunting together to kill rats faster & we are not using cats part of the time, we can't meet the criteria exactly.
Example:
1) At minute 48, 12 cats would have killed 96 rats. With the remaining 2 min, there isn't enough time to kill another set of rats.
2) If we use 13 cats we can have 104 rats killed with 2 minutes remaining.

We can't get exactly 100 rats in 50 min but we can get close.
