Discuss-Toga & stola.
Answer / Harendra Kunmar Varma
The toga and stola were ancient Roman garments that played significant roles in the Roman society, especially during the Empire period. The Toga is a rectangular sheet of wool draped around the body, typically worn by men over a tunic. It symbolizes the Roman citizenship and was the most common formal wear for public appearances, official ceremonies, and legal proceedings. On the other hand, the stola was a garment worn by married women and free-born girls, consisting of a rectangular cloth wrapped around the body and pinned at one shoulder. It was accompanied by a mantle (palla) worn over the shoulder. Both toga and stola were important elements in preserving Roman cultural identity.
