What are the main costumes used by the Japanese women? Explain.
Answer / Mohd. Sufiyan Khan
Japanese women have traditionally worn a variety of costumes, each with its own significance and purpose. Some of the most notable include:
1. Kimono: A traditional robe consisting of a wide-sleeved outer layer (uwagi) and a narrow-sleeved underlayer (neshiki). Kimonos are worn over a kosode, a sleeveless undershirt. They come in various styles, colors, and patterns, often adorned with intricate embroidery or dyed designs.
2. Yukata: A lighter, simpler version of the kimono, typically made from cotton, yukatas are informal summer wear for both men and women. They are usually worn after bathing or during festivals like Obon.
3. Furisode: A type of kimono with long, swinging sleeves (furisode means "swinging sleeves") that is traditionally worn by unmarried women. It is characterized by its elaborate design and decorative obi belt.
