Explain about Characters of Catalytic Reactions ?

Explain about Characters of Catalytic Reactions ?..

Answer / guest

(1) As a result if chemical reaction, the catalyst does not
undergo any change in its mass or composition.

(2) To accelerate the reaction, very small amount of
catalyst is only needed

(3) It does not alter the position of equilibrium in a
reversible reaction

(4) A catalyst can alter only speed of the reaction, but it
cannot start a reaction

(5) Catalytic action is specific

(6) In some cases efficiency of catalyst is enhanced by
presence of some other substance known as promoter or activator

(7) Sometimes catalysts lose their efficiency in the
presence of substance known as catalytic poisons

Application of Catalyst:

1.In manufacture of sulphuric acid.

2.In synthesis of Ammonia

3.In manufacture if Nirtic acid

4.Hydrogenation of oils.

1.Some important catalysts are finely divided Nicket which
is used in hydrogenation of oils

2.Finety divided iron in wed in Haber?s process for
manufacture Ammonia

3.Water vapour acts as a general catalyst in gaseous reactions

4.Dilute acids catalyse the inversion of cane sugar.

5.Presence of alkalies accelerates the decomposition of
hydrogen peroxide
