Why does oil thrown on rough sea make it calmer ?
Answer / guest
Oil has less surface tension than water. It forms a thin
film, when it is thrown on water. Thus oil film acts as a
stretched membrane and tends to suppress any movement in the
surface of the water. This helps to make the sea calm.
