Give an account of TCID50 and plaque forming unit (PFU) ?
Answer / Mukesh Kumar Singh
TCID50 (Tissue Culture Infectious Dose 50) is a measure of virus titer that represents the amount of virus required to infect 50% of cell monolayers in tissue culture. It provides an estimate of the virulence of a specific strain. Plaque forming unit (PFU) is another measure of virus titer, indicating the number of plaques formed by viral progeny after infection and incubation of a cell monolayer. Both TCID50 and PFU are used to quantify viral particles.
