What is the difference between LB Miller & LB, Lennox ?
Answer / Solanki Dilavarkhan
Luria-Bertani (LB) medium is a commonly used growth medium for Escherichia coli. LB can be obtained from two different suppliers: Miller and Lennox. Although both formulations have similar compositions, there are differences in the concentration of some components:
1. NaCl: The Miller formula contains 10 g/L of NaCl, while the Lennox formula contains 5 g/L of NaCl. This difference affects the osmotic pressure of the medium and may impact bacterial growth and metabolism.
2. Bacto-Tryptone and yeast extract: The LB Miller and LB Lennox formulations also have differences in the concentration of these components, although the exact amounts can vary between batches from different suppliers. These differences may influence the availability of essential nutrients for bacterial growth.
