First check it is volatile or non volatile because HPLC is
for volatile or non volatile component and GC is for only
volatile component. After for HPLC check solubility of
component then v can use check UV , PDA , Refractive index
detecter.GC for FID,TCD,ECD detecter etc.

First cheeck the volatile nature & thermal stability of
compound,if it is highly volatile, thermal stable go for
gc,if it is not(i.e,non volatile&thermally unstable) we can
prefer hplc.

first check the UV spectrum of the compound if spectrum is
available go for hplc, if not that is UV inactive so start
method with GC.

if compound is volatile analytical method will by GC.
and if compound nonvolatile means it decomposes on heating
for this will use hplc.
