what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / priya vashisth

in fermenter we maintained anaerobic conditions in order to grow anaerobic bacteria used for fermentation while in bioreacter both aerobic and anaerobic conditions are prevalent to grow both type of organism.

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / laki

fermentor is used for production of bioproducts using microorganisms. bioreactors is also used for production of bioproducts using any living organisms like plants , yeast etc..

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / kitty

Fermentor is a closed vessel(anaerobically maintained),restricted for microbial, prokaryotic cells, and operated in small scale.
Bioreactor is used for Eukaryotic as well as other kinds of cells. It can be operated aerobically and also in Industrial scale.

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / abhas kumar

Bio-reactor is used for the production of cell biomass (organisms), where as fermentor is used for the production of metabolites(biochemically active substances).

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / satheesh

Operational principal carried out in fermentor and bioreactor are almost simliar, and can be defined as the biochemical reaction carried out in interest of suitable products by using certain bio-meto driving agent :say enzyme or microrganism..and they can be either operated in aerobic or anerobic..
DIFFERENCE:
1.IN fermentor the reaction can be carried by both enzyme, catalyst or micro organism and animal cell etc.. but in biorector only living cells or their product can attribute to yield of metabolites.
(Say-chem/biochemical in fermentor whereas only biochemical in bioreactor).
2.Basic Fermentor design will be somewhat constant except certain imbelled parameters such as varying measurements or size, spare parts design(impeller)heat and mass transfer based design,,and their mode of operation will be three namely batch, fed batch and continuous.....
whereas the basic bioreactor designs has many option such as packed bed, fluidized bed bioreactor,IVFR,Air lift bioreactor.one should select the above said design based on reaction going to carried out.

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / geetha

In fermentor the fermentation takes place using microorganisms where as in bioreactor biological materials are used such as plant and animal tissue.

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / muhammad hosni

fermentation was mainly used for production of brewing alcoholic beverages only, with the increase in our knowledge about bacteria and fungi, fermentors have been developed that are being put to more productive uses. Bioreactors are a step ahead in design and construction. While fermentors are systems used for growth and maintenance in a controlled manner, of a population of bacterial or fungal cells, bioreactor is a system used for growth and maintenance of mammalian and insect cells.

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / jayant patil

Fermentor - specialized vessel with all required control facilities used to cultivate MICROORGANISMS LIKE BACTERIA, YEASTS, MOLDS, ACTINOMYCETE fermentations to produce the desired products.

Bioreactor - specialized vessel with all required control facilities used to cultivate CELL CULTURES LIKE (mostly) ANIMAL CELL CULTURE (less frequently) PLANT & INSECT TISSUE CULTURE) fermentations to produce the desired products (USUALLY PROTEINOUS).

what is the difference between fermentor and bioreactor?..

Answer / venkatesh ediga

1.In the fermenter primary metabolites are the products
whereas in bioreactor secondary metabolites are the
products.
2.In the fermenter, bacterial cells are having rigid cell
walls. whereas in bioreactor animal cells are fragile, so
preferable agitation RPM less in bioreactor than fermenter.
3.In the fermenter bacterial cells doubling time is 20 min,
whereas in bioreactor animal cells takes 14hours or 17
hours or 24 hours.
4.In the fermenter fermentation takes place whereas in
bioreactor biochemical reactions takes place.
