horse power is defined as the amount of weight in pounds
that a horse could lift one foot in one second. by
experiment it was found that an avg. horse can lift 550lb.
one foot in one second.
consequently,

1 hp = 550lb-feet/sec.

POWER IS THE RATE OF DOING WORK.
THE WORK CAN BE DONE BY SLOWLY OR RAPIDLY.THE RATE AT WHICH
THE WORK IS DONE IS MEASURED IN TERMS OF POWER, A HORSE CAN
DO WORK SLOWLY ,WHILE A MACHINE CAN DO A GREAT AMOUNT OF
WORK.

UNITS OF POWER:M-KG/SEC,
M-KG/MIN.

ONE HORSE POWER=75 M-KG/SEC,
=4500M-KG/MIN.
