IIS 5.1 is for Windows XP
IIS 6 is for Windows Server, We can create separate
application pool with worker process for a separete website
in IIS 6.0 only.

the major major difference is in authentication , log file
format and the listening files..... in iis 5.1 providing
only 5 types of auth. and in iis 6.0 providing 7 types.....
(advance digest ,unc,.net passport is in iis6.0) microsoft
ingreted log file format in iis6.0... svchost.exe for
iis5.1 and http.sys for iis6.0........
