actually the fuel air mixture is ignited by the aid of spark
plug, but because of high temperature areas around the
cylinder the fuel air mixture is ignited before spark gets .
this phenomenon is called auto ignition

As we know in combustion chamber fuel and air mixture is present and it is ignited with the help of spark plug . But sometimes due to high temperature and pressure in combustion chamber fuel itself burned before the spark plug fires this phenomena is known as self ignition in petrol engine.
