what is the working principle of Brushed alternator ?
without exictation how we can give dc supply to rotor ?
Answer / k.prakashchandra
Brushed gen has shaft mounted self excited dc generator ,and
in large gen there are pilot and main exciters.Starting
voltage is obtained from residual magnetism in poles of
pilot exciter. Then with rheostats, required voltage is
developed in main exciter to supply dc to rotor with brushes
and collector(slip) rings. For varying exciting current, the
main exciter rheostat is used with the pilot voltage fixed.
