If pump suction valve is throttled, what would be the
result?

Answer / rohit bhutani
the pump would not be able to take in as much fluid as the
amount of suction pressure created.. this would lead to
cavitation (its nt capitation)... the effects of cavitation
are as per described in the last answer.. damage to impeller
blades, increased vibrations, etc..
this is the only reason that for controlling the flow we use
a valve at discharge line rather than the suction line...

Answer / dodi
flow and pressure to the discharge line shall reduced as
appears on the pressure gauge, and capitation could be
happening of the pump immediately, high vibration,
temperature raised, and culminate in the pump parts getting
severe damage

In case of Centrifugal Pump:Restricted entry (suction) to
the pump, will lead to CAVITATIONAL effect. This will not
only affect the performance of the pump, but also can creat
damage to impeller and casing material.

i m agree vth Kathiravan simply if u control suction
valve,it draws less liquid means flow makes high pressure
which needs low current.and discharge side we get high
pressure which give us high dp leeds to cavitation.......
am i right?

Depends !
The differential pressure across the pump will be increased.
The pump flow will decrease. How much it decreases depends
on the pump type. If the suction is throttled
sufficiently, pseudo-cavitation and/or cavitation will
occur.
Much better to the throttle the discharge providing it
isn't a pd pump. Much better, more efficient, to size the
pump correctly in the first place !
Approximate system parameters gets you an approximate
(usually inefficient) pump !

If it is throttled than it works as a convergent nozzle and
the area of suction will increase.

Motot draws less current.
Discharge Pr will decrease
Discharge flow gets decreased
Pump tries to suck air.
