what is the function of buchhos rely in transformer..

Answer / ilononurb

Buchholz is a gas actuated relay which response if there is
any abnormality inside the transformer. Ex. If there a
incipient fault happens in transformer winding. arc causes
decomposition of oil that contains more hydrogen gas which
being light rise upward to bocholz relay. The gas is
collected to upper side of the relay. therby oil level drop
down in the B-relay that tilt the mercury switch that close
the alarm circuit.B-relay gives an alarm so that the
transformer can be disconected before the incipient fault
grows in to serious one.

overloading, overcurrent,or any such things which increase
the tempreture of oil,,,then there will be gas bubble in
oil,,,,buchhos relay senses this abnormal condition,,,,
it will also give alarm signal if oil level is lower than
pre decide value,,,,,,,,,

what is the function of buchhos rely in transformer..

Answer / kjh

I agree with answer #2 .I want to add some, B-relay has two
stages one is connected in alarm circuit and the other is
connected wtih tripping circuit. It also tripping the
incomming C.B. of the transformer in case sewear fault.

function of B-REly is the smoke detection not to check the
leakage.Allthough It has a oil leve detector .

what is the function of buchhos rely in transformer..

Answer / pillay

It is known as BUCHHOLZ relay.
A buchholz relay is operated by the accumulation of air bubbles within a transformer.
a) When a short circuit happens within the windings or within the contacts of the tap changer or any other shortings a localised heating takes place and gasses are liberated within the transformer.
b) When there is a leak in the transformer and the oil level drops or
c) The temp drops too low and the oil level falls below the required level.
These conditions trigger the float switch within the buchholz relay. The contacts are used for tripping the transformer or to on an alarm.
