To avoid excessive heating caused by high order harmonics
such as 3rd and 5th harmonics which cause increase in
hysterisis and eddy current losses in core. These harmoncis
are the result of magnetising current which is non
sinusoidal.

well, it causes disturbances to the communication systems
nearby ie., electro magnetic waves . its causes unwanted
heating in the core
