why AC voltage source are generate as 50 Hz ?

Answer / skeeter
Synchronous sources operate according to the equation:
(Hz) = (Poles)*(RPM)/120.
Generation can occur at any frequency that meets this
condition. Every electrical distribution network has its
preferred freqeuncy; North America is predominantly 60 Hz,
while Europe and Asia tend to favor 50 Hz. However, several
other frequencies also exist - ranging from 25 Hz to
several megahertz.

5o Hz is the standard frequency in india, technically the
frequcy produced by the Ac genrater depends on F= Number of
poles*Speed of generator/120 which is equal to 50 HZ for a
4pole 1500 Rpm and running speed of generator is 1500 RPM
