At which conditions a synchronous motor acts as a
synchronous condenser?

Answer / baswaraj
When Synchronous Motor's field winding is 'Over Excited' it
supplies the KVARs back to the the supply lines. This
property is similar to the Capacitor or Condenser.

WHEN NO MECHANICAL LOAD IS CONNECTED TO THE MOTOR AND MOTOR
IS RUNNING UNDER OVER-EXCITED CONDITION AT THAT TIME IT
ACTS AS SYNCHRONOUS CONDENSER.

Answer / minimanu
When the synchronous motor is running in over excited mode,
it will start delivering reactive current to the electrical
network and shall be acting as a condensor. The synchronus
motor always run on synchronus speed, it can't run above
the synchronus speed. The rective current flow is purely is
function of excitation of the motor.

An over excited synchronous motor operation at no load will
act as a synchronous condenser
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 16 Yes | 1 No |
Answer / jeetendra kumar verma
The synchronous motor runs under three conditiond under
exited(lagging power factor) normal excited (unity power
factor) and over excited (leading power factor)when
synchronus motor runs with over excited field current it
deliver reactive power to network so in over excited
condition synchronus motor act as a synchronus condensor
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 14 Yes | 3 No |
Answer / amit
Synchronous motor gets over exited, and runs above the
synchronous speed then it draw the leadding current so in
this time it behave as a synchronous condenser.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 17 Yes | 8 No |
Answer / harry
synchronous motor runs under over excited it would draw
leading current as capacitor
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 17 Yes | 9 No |
Answer / pandi
in synchronus motor field winding is over excited (Eb>V).now
motor supply the reactive power(KVAR)&draw current at
leading power factor.that conditions called as synchronus
condenser

Answer / rajeev ranjan
A syncronous motor can act as a Syncronous Condensor when
and only two Basic conditions fulfill
1.Motor should run at No load operation and
2.Field Winding should be Over excited
With these condition motor start giving the reactive
current to the supply system.
