construction joint we provide between new and old concrete work
We give expansion joint in building because the effect of thermal expansion in concrete and steel can damage the structure.

to make a monolithic structure between old and new concrete portion in member it is proposed special condition by providing L groove or joining chemical/materials is called construction joint.
Due to thermal condition concrete may shrink/expand, to avoid failure of structure due to thermal condition it is proposed to provide gap between structure , this gap called expansion or thermal expansion joint.

Expansion Joint R providing for keep gape between two structure due to consideration of earth quick.

example u r making column means it will go up to 50m
height means but u put only 3m means ofter curing u r
making reaming lenght of the column means u want to chipp
the that conctete and the u whant make the remaning column
its called construction joint
