what do u understand by the term "Rotor Long" and "Rotor short"?..

Answer / sanjay singh kharola

the mass of casing is more than mass of rotor so the casing

heated slowly than rotor and also it cools slower than rotor

hence during the starting of turbine when preheating is

carried out (preheating done to reduce the thermal stress)

the rotor expansion is faster than casing expansion this is

call "rotor long", similarly when the turbine is triped (

that is when steam supply is shut off) the rotor cool

faster than casing and this is called "rotor short"

what do u understand by the term "Rotor Long" and "Rotor short"?..

Answer / ch javed

Rotor Long means that the rotor is being heated at the
faster rate, has elongated and moved towards the governor
and which is free to move.

Rotor Short means that the rotor is being cooled at a faster
rate, has contracted and the free and has moved towards the
governor end.

what do u understand by the term "Rotor Long" and "Rotor short"?..

Answer / shiv

actually rotor long condition moves towards governer sude
is correct but at the time rotor short it contracts due to
fast cooling and movez towards it origional position.
this is normally pretends a movement towards generator side
