Why stress-strain diagram is not prepared by compressive
testing instead of testing component by tensile stress?

Answer / pradeesh s s
if we conduct tensile test we can identify clearly yield
point, ultimate point etc..which are needd for
calculation, but in compression test we may get it,but in
compression flow stress is tking place, which makes it
difficult.

Answer / nitin
readings are easily taken in tensile stress, no special arrangement is req. to prevent buckling as in compression. Flow stress is a material property depending upon grain size, heat treatment, chemical composition etc. It is the instantaneous stress required for plastic deformation i.e; to keep the material flowing and does not depend upon the type of loading.
