optical fiber is a thin wire type material containing core
and cladding use to transmit the information in form of
light waves.
optical fiber follow the total internal law of reflection,
optical fibers are mostly made with glass material as well
as plastic material of different refractive index and
refractive index of core always should be greater than
refractive index of cladding for easily propagation of light....

In Short,
An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made of
high quality extruded glass (silica) or plastic, slightly
thicker than a human hair.
*Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic
communications,metal wires ,most high definition
televisions offer a digital audio optical connection
*Optical fibers typically include a transparent core
surrounded by a transparent cladding material with a lower
index of refraction. Light is kept in the core by total
internal reflection. This causes the fiber to act as a
waveguide
