XPS vs EPS difference
Which leads us to the most important difference between
these two insulation styrofoams and it is that the extruded
polystyrene insulation (XPS) cellular structure is closed.
Therefor the XPS doesn´t absorb water, it´s capilarity is
very low and also it´s thermal conductivity is much lower
than of EPS. Based on the above properties of extruded
polystyrene, it is mostly used when constructing the roofs
with the reverse order of insulation layers.
Advantages of extruded polystyrene foam
- has no impact on people´s health; - extruded polystyrene
insulation installation is very easy; - can be molded or any
other way shaped; - waterproof and resistant against all in
water dissolvable stuff.
Disadvantages of extruded polystyrene insulation
- the foam polystyrene insulation is not resistant against
organic solvents and therefor cannot be used in combination
with MPVC hydro-insulation foils. The XPS segments usually
are covered on its face side with the 1 cm plast cemet layer
that serves as the protection and stabilsation layer.
