Answer / ramky
cosine of the angle b/w voltage and current is nothing but
the power factor. it is very use full in a.c systems , by
using this we can measure active power

its cosine of angle between voltage and current of the given system.
its present in both ac and dc circuit but in case of dc its always 1 as angle between voltage and current in this case is always 0 degree.so generally we don't talk about pf in dc.
but in case of ac it varies from 0 to 1.

to make a long storey short Ramky & monika have answered. It is present only in AC circuits.
it is used for the calculation of real power from apparent power.Gives you an idea how capacitive or inductive is a load.
