The answer expected in core companies is
that "Microprocessor do not have memory and I/O ports
inside they are connected externally, while in
microcontroller you have memory and I/O ports in build.
Here memory in the sense RAM and ROM.

The basic difference between the microprocessor and
microcontroller is that we can interface a microcontroller
directly means "for example we can directly connect a
keyboard to microcontroller to any of its ports"....where
as for microprocessor we can't interface directly...we
require a circuit board since it requires
ram,ic's.....etc.,!

The major difference between is that microcontroller has
ports which makes it easier to interface various i/p and
o/p device, whereas in microprocessor you dont have ports,
so you go for interfacing IC's to avail the ports, some of
the interfacing IC's used along with microprocessor are
8279 for keyboard, 8251 for serial communication, 8255 for
parallel communication, etc.

In Microprocessor more op-codes, few bit handling
instructions. But in Microcontroller: fewer op- codes, more
bit handling Instructions, and also it is defined as a
device that includes micro processor, memory, & input /
output signal lines on a single chip.

MICROPROCESSOR:
1).Most microprocessors many operating codes for moving the
data external memory to CPU.
2).May have one or two bytes bit handling instructions.
3).the microprocessor can have meny additional parts to be
operational.
MICROCONTROLLER:
1).May have one or two opcode.
2).will have many bits handling instruction.
3).In microcontroller it can function has a computer with
the addition of no external digital parts.

Micro controller has on chip memory (i.e. RAM and ROM) and
I/O ports whereas in microprocessor memory and I/O ports has
to be connected externally . Despite of all disadvantages,
microprocessor has 1 major advantage over micro controller
i.e. memory in microprocessor is expandable whereas memory
in micro controller is limited , that's why in our PC we use
microprocessor and not microcontroller.

and also micro controller accepts floating points where as
microprocessor can't.

the basic difference is that micro controller is task
oriented where as micro processor can execute the
instructions parellelly.in the sence at a time we can open
no of processes but in micro controllers we cant.
2. the other is microcontroller has all memory and io ports
on single chip .but where as in micro processor we need to
connect each and and every elements externally.
3.micro controller has harvard architecture but whe as
micro processor has von neumann architecture.
