what difference between centrifugal and reciprocating pump.
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
reciprocating pump is a positive displacement pump.here the word +ve refers to no losses, leakage and backflow.means total discharge occur.one more thing in this case actual movement or displacement of fluid takesplace.
on d other hand a centrifugal pump is a dynamic pump.here suction takes place through a vortex casing.inside the casing a impellar is there.due to rotatio of dis impellar fluid is also rotated and centrifugal force acts on it.by which suction occur.

reciprocating pump is a positive displace ment pump.. and
centrifugal pump is a forced vortex flow pump. forced
vortex flow means when a certain mass of liquid is forced
to rotate its head increases

Centrifugal pump principal is dynamic action between
rotating impeller and fluid.
reciprocating pump principal is mechanical action b/w moving
piston and stationery fluid( more suitable is liquid).
centrifugal pump creates pressure head due to the conversion
of kinetic energy of fluid. the pressure head is nothing but
the resistant to the flow of fluid.

centrifugal pumps generate desired discharge head by applying centrifugal force on water through runner...
they are used to generate high discharge with low pressure.
whereas reciprocating pumps generate discharge head by pressurising water in a cylinder through reciprocating piston..they are used for generating low discharge at high pressure..
