Both answers above are true but do not explain why.
With a 3 phase load an artificial star point is created to
replace the neutral. In a perfectly balanced load this will
have no effect.
If the load per phase is unbalanced the where the star
point is created will depend on the load unbalance. the
voltage phase to neutral may increase in one phase and
decrease in the others.
In one instance I have seen this where the voltage in one
phase increased to 300 in a 416/240 volt system.

Our Alternator nameplate specifies a power factor of 0.8. When the Alternator is on light load, the bus bar voltage rises to 11240 volts, whereas the standard value is 10500 volts. Is it ok to increase the power factor to 0.85 or 0.9. I am afraid because the power factor on the name plate is only 0.8 ?

there is a line fault some where on the ove head distribution line. how will i locate the fault for clearing it? ofcourse i have to megger the line but what information makes me clear that the fault is in that section of the line?
