the diesel generator is a combination of diesel engine couple to a generator( alternator), the engine is a prime mover which in turn rotate the rotor of generator as a result it induces EMF across stator first, the engine has to be started either manually or by electrically, if the engine is of high capacity then it has to started electrically with the help of electrical starter motor, initial crank or rotation to the engine is given by motor with a high starting torque so as to start the engine , when the engine picks up speed the starter motor is disconnected and pinion is detached from the fly wheel of engine and engine run on its own,and rotor of the generator which is couple start running as long as the engine is running and produces and supplying electrical power.
