You can run a PC w/o a HDD using a BOOTP server, which
sends the OS to the target m/c and in addition to that it
acts as a DHCP server to provide IP address

PC without HD is a dumb terminal and boots to an image on
the network. It could be a citrix or windows terminal
server or better yet t could be vertual PC with a shared
storage on a SAN type of shared storage. Current NICs have
a cability to ask for DHCP and connect to a resource
through the usage of bootp.

Yes, You can run computer using bootable CD, which contains
OS in a cd this OSs are Knoppix and Chevna. it loads OS in
RAM, you can save and surf internet too until is restarted

Using Disk less booting you can run your computer without
hardisk.you have to confiqure dhcp with
host xterm {
hardware ethernet 08:00:2B:B7:F3:80;
fixed-address xterm.ken.net.au;
filename "/tftpdir/xterm.nb";
}
Here you have to mention pixe boot image into filename section
you need pixe boot image and tftp server to confiqure
diskless booting

To vishal and manikandan the perfect answer is we can run a
computer without hard disk using Bootp protocol which will
provide you OS with ip address.
Second option is using floppy or cd with dos software we can
run the system and in addition nowadays we are using pen
drive through pen drive also can run the system if it has OS
or DOS in it.
