A bicistronic retroviral vector is a genetically engineered retrovirus that contains two separate transcriptional units (cistrons) in a single viral genome. The vectors are designed to express two genes simultaneously, usually separated by an internal ribosomal entry site (IRES). Bicistronic retroviral vectors are often used for co-expression of proteins in cell lines or for gene therapy applications.
