What is the plasma membrane of the cell? What are its main functions?
Answer / Arjun Chaurasia
The Plasma Membrane, also known as the Cell Membrane, is a phospholipid bilayer that encloses the cell and separates it from its external environment. Its main functions include: maintaining the integrity and shape of the cell; regulating the movement of substances in and out of the cell by acting as a selectively permeable barrier; protecting the cell from harmful substances and microorganisms; and participating in signal transduction, which is the process by which cells respond to external stimuli.
