Why did Mahatma Gandhi launch the non-cooperation movement? Also, why was it withdrawn?
Answer / Anil Panwar
Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920 as a response to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the Rowlatt Act. The primary objectives were Swaraj (self-rule), abolition of foreign-imposed taxes, end of alcohol trade by British companies, and boycott of foreign goods. It was withdrawn in February 1922 after the Chauri Chaura incident, where a police station was burnt down during protests.
