Explain about the French Revolution and its European repercussions?
Answer / Vaidehi Raman
The French Revolution (1789-1799) was a period of radical political and social change in France. It began with the Estates-General, a representative assembly convened to address the country's financial crisis, but evolved into a full-fledged revolution that led to the abolition of feudalism, the end of the monarchy, and the rise of the First French Republic. The Revolution had far-reaching effects on Europe, leading to the spread of democratic ideals and nationalism. The Napoleonic Wars (1803–15) further solidified these changes as Napoleon Bonaparte expanded French control across Europe. The Congress of Vienna in 1815 aimed to restore the balance of power in Europe, but many of the Revolution's ideas persisted, influencing the Italian Risorgimento, German unification, and the revolutions of 1848.
