Imperialism played a significant role in leading to the First World War. The competition for colonies, resources, and markets created tensions between imperial powers, particularly Germany and Britain, which had competing interests in Africa and Asia. The complex system of alliances that developed among these powers also contributed to the outbreak of war. However, it's important to note that other factors such as nationalism, militarism, and political instability also played a role.
