Gene is a general term that referes to a particular
character. For e.g., Hair colour is controlled by a gene.
However, there are various colours of hair are present.
e.g.,black hair and brown hair. These two versions of hair
colour are nothing but the alternate forms of a gene which
are called as ALLELES.The alleles of a same gene can differ
from each other by the presence of different nucleotides at
a spcific position. i.e. nuleotide polymorphism. Some times
the alleles can be either homozygous or heterozygous for a
given gene. Following mendelian genetics, one allele is
inherited from one of the parents.

Genes are the short nucleotide sequence which encodes for a diffusible product for a particular trait i.e.character e.g.Gene for tallness
Alleles are pair of two genes (mostly homologous but not necessarily to be) which codes the two different phenotype but for same trait or character

Answer / vijay
alleles are similar to gene. but the thing thing is they
modified..may be the two genes re united to form new
allele..
like the blood group 'AB' which has derived from the
individual blood groups 'A'and 'B'..
