PC12 transfection is a process used to introduce foreign DNA into PC12 cells, a rat pheochromocytoma cell line that can differentiate into neuron-like cells. The most common method of transfection is using liposomes or viral vectors such as lentivirus or adenovirus to deliver the DNA into the cells. The transfected cells are then grown in culture medium containing selective drugs, such as G418 or puromycin, to kill non-transfected cells and enrich for transfected cells that have taken up the foreign DNA.
